Ride Description

Biking in Thailand Hua Hin
Day 1 – Bangkok - Petchaburi - Pranburi

Sunday

The tour starts at the superb Bangkok hotel, with an early morning welcome briefing. Our local guide will run you through the up and coming week, answer any questions you may have, before introducing everyone to their bike, (if you have rented one.)

Once the luggage and bikes have been loaded it’s time to drive through the busy streets to our start location, Petchaburi, 3.5 hrs away.

We ease you into your road biking in Thailand adventure, with an introductory ride taking in the miles and miles of palm trees and paddy fields, which surround us on both sides. A mere 300m of height is gained throughout the day, so there is plenty of breath left, to chat, getting to know our fellow riders.

We arrive on the east coast at the beach resort of Hua Hin, with its friendly relaxed atmosphere and white sandy beaches. This small town is linked to Thai royalty, meaning it has not become overdeveloped, keeping its quaint charm.

The last 20km of this ride takes us out on to the wide main road where cyclist can ride in the hard shoulder. If you are not comfortable with the traffic, then the support vehicle can pick you up at any point.

The Wyndham Hua Hin Pranburi Resort is our destination for the evening, where we will have time to relax, enjoying the pool and beach front, before a locally sourced seafood dinner.

Accommodation: Wyndham Hua Hin Pranburi Resort

Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner

Transfer time: 3.5 hours, Bangkok to Petchaburi, where the ride begins

Ascent: 965ft, 294m

Day 2 – Pranburi - Klong Wan

Monday

Today’s ride blends big landscapes with classic coastal riding. We begin with 20 km along the shore at Pranburi, loosening the legs on easy roads with ocean views, palm-lined beaches and local fishing boats dotted across the bay. Turning inland, we enter the dramatic setting of Sam Roi Yot “Three Hundred Peaks” where jagged limestone massifs tower above the coastal plain and create a spectacular backdrop for the ride.

The route threads through a mosaic of shrimp farms, their geometric pools forming a distinctive, ever-changing panorama. By roughly 45 km we’re back beside the sea, following quieter coastal lanes, at times running alongside the old railway corridor that has long connected Bangkok to the south.

Our reward is the dazzling approach to Prachuap Khiri Khan: two brilliant blue bays that guide us into Klong Wan, a charming, unhurried seaside town and our home for the night.

Day 3 – Klong Wan - Baan Grood

Tuesday

Today is intentionally shorter, giving us the chance to roll into our next beach resort in time for lunch and a laid-back afternoon by the sea. We leave Klong Wan along a mix of coastal lanes and quiet inland roads, threading through coconut plantations that become a defining feature of the landscape from here onwards.

There’s an unavoidable 10 km stretch on the main road, but the shoulder is wide and the riding is straightforward. After that, we return to peaceful back roads that hug the coastline, bringing back the gentle rhythm of seaside cycling.

Around the 45 km mark we pause at an organic coconut farm for a behind-the-scenes look at how coconuts are grown and harvested. An essential part of daily life along Thailand’s coast. Naturally, there’s time to sample some fresh coconut too.

From here, it’s an easy run to our seaside resort on Baan Grood Beach, a quiet arc of golden sand where the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Dinner is independent this evening, so you can keep it simple at the resort or head out to a nearby local seafood spot.

Ascent: 1355ft, 413m

Cycling: 40 miles, 65km

Day 4 – Ban Grood - Saphli

Wednesday

Today’s ride cuts across Thailand at one of its narrowest points, with Myanmar never far from view to the west. We roll out on Baan Grood’s laid-back coastal road, pedalling past palms, quiet sands and the gentle morning rhythm of beach life.

Before long, we slip inland onto peaceful country lanes, a patchwork of rural scenes, small homes and greenery. Then join a broader road that threads through the rich estuary landscapes of Thailand’s coast. It’s a beautifully varied stretch: open skies, waterlogged flats, and flashes of mangrove-lined waterways.

Around the 70 km mark, the road narrows and the scenery becomes hypnotic. Kilometre after kilometre of coconut groves and palm plantations stretching into the distance. It’s the kind of riding where you find your cadence, settle into the effort, and watch the day unfold one smooth pedal stroke at a time.

As we near the final quarter, we shift up a gear and cruise along a dedicated bike lane beside the main road — a fast, efficient run towards the sea. At roughly 95 km we arrive at Ao Bo Mao Bay, perfectly timed for a relaxed lunch with the sand just a few steps away.

After lunch, we cross a scenic bridge dotted with fishing boats and coastal colour, before completing the last stretch into Saphli. Here, Chumphon’s beaches welcome us in, a perfect place to unwind after our first big milestone day.

Accommodation: Nana Beach Resort

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Transfer time: N/a

Ascent: 2739ft, 835m

Cycling: 73miles, 117km

Day 5 – Saphli - Lang Suan

Thursday

Set out for a long, rewarding day through Chumphon’s watery backroads and green interior. The opening kilometres hug the coast, where a string of elegant bridges carries us over estuaries and tidal creeks. We roll past Pak Hat Beach, a quiet shoreline with a dramatic wartime story, before turning inland to a landscape shaped by farming. Coconut groves, rubber and oil‑palm plantations line the lane, broken up by orchards of rambutan, durian and mangosteen.

With around 95 km to cover, we keep a steady, social pace on predominantly minor roads, giving plenty of time to watch village life unfold.

Traffic is light, the scenery changes constantly, and there are frequent chances to stop for fruit, coffee and photos along.

Traffic is light, the scenery changes constantly, and there are frequent chances to stop for fruit, coffee and photos along. As Thailand’s “Gateway to the South”, Chumphon begins to feel distinctly southern: golden temples sit alongside an increasing number of mosques, and you’ll notice local dress reflecting the peninsula’s cultural mix. Late afternoon brings a calm finish at a Thai‑style countryside retreat, set among gardens on the Lang Suan River plain, perfect for a shower, a cold drink and a well‑earned rest.

Day 6 – Lang Suan - Laem Sai

Friday

After two back-to-back days of 100 km-plus riding, today eases off nicely without losing any of the scenery. Leaving Lang Suan, we thread our way along quiet back lanes for around 13 km, gradually working back towards the shoreline. Before long the Gulf of Thailand comes back into view and the ride turns wonderfully coastal, gliding past working beaches where small boats, nets and ingenious fishing rigs punctuate the seafront.

A gentle run of palm-fringed roads brings us to Lamae Beach, where we pause for a well-earned break at roughly the 30 km mark. From here we swing inland and settle onto a long, straight, pancake-flat stretch of tarmac, perfect for finding a comfortable rhythm and riding at your own pace.

As the kilometres tick by, the landscape starts to change. Dramatic limestone karsts rise out of the plains, and by around 60 km we’re riding right beneath these jungle-coated towers. After a lively dash through palm oil plantations, we gradually arc back towards the ocean, finishing the day at Laem Sai Beach. With an arrival timed for lunch, the afternoon is yours: unwind, dip your toes in the sea, and enjoy a quieter corner of Thailand well away from the usual tourist hubs.

Ascent: 1181ft, 360m

Cycling: 52 miles, 84km

Day 7 – Laem Sai - Khao Sok

Saturday

Today’s ride is a real turning point: we leave the soft, white beaches behind and push west across the peninsula towards the deep greens of Khao Sok. From Laem Sai we spin 20 km on peaceful lanes to one of the South’s oldest Buddhist temples, founded over a thousand years ago in the era of the Srivijaya kingdom.

Skirting the back roads around Surat Thani, the lively provincial capital, we thread through the busier outskirts before easing back onto quiet country roads by around 60 km. The next section rolls through rubber and oil‑palm country, the engine room of local farming.

At roughly 80 km we pause at a fascinating cave temple, then settle into the final kilometres to the park’s fringe. Our hotel sits beneath rugged, rainforest-cloaked limestone peaks, with Cheow Lan Lake. An immense reservoir dotted with karst towers, only a short transfer away. Jungle sounds drift through the evening.

Day 8 – Khao Sok - Khao Lak

Sunday

This morning we roll out on one of Southern Thailand’s most scenic cycling corridors, tracing the southern edge of Khao Sok National Park. The road threads through dense, emerald rainforest and dramatic limestone karsts, offering a vivid glimpse of a landscape often cited among the world’s oldest evergreen jungles and one of the largest remaining native forests in the region.

For the first 55 km, the riding is pleasantly varied: gentle rises and dips with a handful of short, sharper ramps to keep things interesting. The main effort of the day arrives with a 5 km climb averaging around 5%, taking us up to a high point before the reward. A fast, flowing descent that delivers us from the hills down into the flatter coastal plains of Thailand’s Andaman side.

At roughly 90 km, we reach the historic town of Takua Pa, once a thriving centre of the tin trade during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, its prosperity lives on in the beautifully preserved Chino‑Portuguese merchant houses and characterful streets. We’ll take time to cruise through town at an easy pace, soak up the atmosphere, and stop for lunch.

Afterwards, we leave the main roads behind and follow quieter lanes that wind through small villages and shady rubber plantations, where the pace slows and the scenery feels distinctly local. The ride finishes in style at Khao Lak, where golden sands meet the Andaman Sea.

The rest of the afternoon is yours: kick back on the beach, enjoy the comforts of our elegant seaside resort, and let the day’s ride sink in.

Accommodation: Apsara Beachfront Resort

Ascent: 3280ft, 1007m

Day 9 – Khao Lak - Phuket

Monday

It’s the home straight and a brilliant finale. We roll out of Khao Lak on the main road, settling into a steady rhythm before stopping around 11 km in at the International Tsunami Museum. It’s a moving visit and a chance to understand the scale of the 2004 tsunami and the communities it changed forever.

Back on the bikes, the scenery takes centre stage. A beautiful climb over a headland rewards us with sweeping coastal views, and by roughly the 30 km mark we leave the busier road behind, turning onto a quiet secondary route that threads through the green, hilly countryside of Phang Nga Province.

As we reach about 60 km, we peel off onto smaller lanes leading towards the coast. These side roads are full of character, fishing villages, lagoons, and pockets of local life that feel a world away from the main highway. The ride then delivers a final treat as we cruise alongside Natai Beach, with the sea close by and the finish line firmly in sight.

And then comes the big moment: the iconic crossing of the Sarasin Bridge, linking the mainland to Phuket. With that, we’ve officially reached our cycling end point, a proper milestone after the journey from Bangkok

To avoid Phuket’s famously busy roads, we load up for a 30 - 45 minute transfer to our final seaside hotel. The rest of the afternoon is yours to unwind, beach, pool, massage, or simply put your feet up.
This evening we regroup for a well-earned celebration, the perfect finish to an epic road cycling adventure from Bangkok to Phuket.
