GRA Itinerary Title
With the expansion of the gravel trail network in the Lake District, perfectly timed with the rise of the gravel bike, this tour is designed to showcase the stunning landscapes of Cumbria. Gravel bike routes are ideal for those seeking a mix of adventure and comfort, as these bikes combine the speed of road bikes with the stability of wider, treaded tires.
Built for navigating rugged terrain, gravel bikes feature dropped handlebars, disc brakes, and are designed to absorb bumps and uneven surfaces. Additionally, electric gravel bikes are welcome, providing extra assistance on the region's hills, ensuring that riders of all fitness levels can enjoy the journey. The growing network of gravel bike routes now allows cyclists to explore off-road paths that wind through some of the UK's most beautiful scenery, from tranquil lakesides to towering mountain passes.
Terrain:
Explore fast-flowing gravel tracks seamlessly connected with tranquil country roads. Given the hilly nature of the Lake District, anticipate approximately 1000-1500 meters of climbing each day.
Tour staff:
These gravel cycling holidays are staffed by our experienced local bike guides who calls the The Lakes their home. They are qualified to navigate all the trails, versed in their variations and challenges. Additionally, our guide is a connoisseur of cakes, ensuring a delightful culinary experience.

With Ambleside being our start point, we have a great many ways to head towards Coniston, either heading up towards Grasmere along the lake shores, or we can head south towards Hawkshead on the gravel cycleways. One of the upsides of tackling the Lake District hilly terrain on route, is that the coffee and cake from a local bakery taste so much better.
Upon returning to Ambleside around mid-afternoon, you have the freedom to freshen up before strolling into town for a well-deserved beer and evening meal. The dining options are diverse, ranging from Michelin-starred fine dining experiences to award-winning fish and chips.
