Overview

The holiday experiences of cycling in Cuba are best enjoyed at an unhurried pace, where you cycle tour amongst the villages and the rural countryside with time to stop, chat and relax. To make this happen one feature of our cycle tour is that we’ve combined careful cycling research with expert local knowledge from our Cuban cycle guides, to plan a cycling holiday that takes in the best of Cuba without many vehicle transfers.

The Cuban countryside we cycle through on this holiday is incredibly varied – cycling amongst the famous limestone karsts or “mogotes” of the Viñales Valley; touring the farming villages, and fruit selling co-operatives of the west; taking a relaxed cycle through fields of tobacco crops that make Cuba's world famous cigars; cycling high into the pristine rainforests of the Escambray Mountains; simply kicking back and enjoying a beachside mohito and an afternoon swim after cycling to the golden sands of Cuba’s Ancon peninsula.

We also cycle through some landmark towns – cycling along the cobbled streets of Trinidad past terracotta tiled homes; winding through the ornate but crumbling Spanish houses in seldom cycled areas of Havana’s old town, or spinning through Vinales, the cultural and musical centre in the west where sounds of salsa pour from every door!

With over 12 years of dedicated cycle research (and a great many cycling visits, of course!), working closely with our friends and cycle guides in Cuba, we’re sure this cycling tour of Cuba will delight and excite you.

I researched a number of Cuba cycling holidays but the Cycle Active tour stood out for me because of the balance of cycling, cultural and other activities and the fact that so much of the tour was off the beaten track and an opportunity to see the real Cuba. I have to say I was not disappointed - this is an exceptionally well-planned trip that visits parts of Cuba that most people never see. The support team and the cycling were both excellent and the scenery often breath taking - and a great group of people to meet and get to know along the way. There is plenty of challenge for those who want it and absolutely no pressure for those who don't. Cuba is still magical - and the best way to see it is from the saddle.

Thank you for a very magical two weeks in Cuba, it far exceeded any expectation that I had had. I really felt I experienced the real Cuba with a lot of the tour being  off the beaten track.

Mark Eyres

Cycle Active shows you the best parts of Cuba and you get to see it from a bike.  Wonderful tour and wonderful guidance.

Molly Mazzella

Our holiday went far beyond our expectations with the cycling being the star of the holiday, getting into the heart of Cuba was like going back in time. The scenery was breathtaking, the small villages pristine in their simplicity. The generosity, smiles and kindness of the people helped make our holiday extra special.

Alison Doolan

A great way to see the real Cuba, its countryside and rural and city life. Cycling through small towns is enormous fun, they are so full of life! Good riding and good company too.

Andrew Ferguson

As a single female traveler, I felt extremely safe and well looked after.

Tessa Costin

For us there was no better way to see and experience Cuba.

A fantastic way to see the real Cuba. A well organised trip with great tour leader & local guide. We are so pleased we chose CycleActive for this trip over some of the larger tour operators as they offer a much more personal service. If you are considering this trip and you like cycling with great scenery and quiet roads (and a few pot holes) then don't hestitate....book it with CycleActive.

Cliff & Sharon Loveday

Super holiday with great support from the cycleactive team.

The only way to see the real Cuba is by bike, and the only way to cycle is with cycle active.

Graham and Shirley Sellens

An amazing adventure in Cuba with great people to organise it!

Sue Threadgold

I had such a great time in Cuba with Cycleactive on great rides through terrific scenery off the beaten track. It gave me a great insight into life in real Cuba! Be flexible, keep your sense of humour and remember this is Cuba and you'll have a ball!

Pam Watters

A tour worth doing as you get to see places and meet people you otherwise wouldn't if you travelled on your own, the riding is fun but not overly challenging and you get to be part of group of people who in my case shared the sense of enjoyment just getting the chance to see such an interesting and historical country.
