Lochs and Glens Cycle Route North
If you are after stunning scenery, then the Scottish Highlands, Lochs and Glens route will not disappoint. With its 194mile passage through the two national parks of Loch Lomond and the Tossachs, and the Cairngorm National Park, there is no shortage of breathtaking views.
The Balloch to Inverness journey starts in the town of Balloch, nestled on the shores of Loch Lomond, just 20 miles north of Glasgow. From there, the route uses a combination of gravel traffic-free cycleways, and quiet country lanes to head north towards its finish in Inverness.
The magnificent old railway viaducts of Glen Ogle, the challenging climb over the Drumochter Pass (457m above sea level), and the many historic castles are just a few of the highlights encountered along the scenic Lochs and Glens Cycle Route.

For those wishing to travel by train, the Lochs and Glens tour is well suited, with train services available to the start in Balloch and then from the finish in Inverness. You can simply book your bike on the train, or for ease of travel, hire either one of our drop bar gravel bikes or hybrid ebikes, which are designed specifically for this style of route.
If you plan to use your own road bike, you'll need a treaded tire between 32c and 38c.
Important: You can bypass some of the gravel, but the only alternative in those sections is often a busy A-road.
